Mens shirt refashion - It's hip to be square!

I love a good shirt refashion and it's hard for me to believe that this is only the second time I've ever done one, I must have totally lost track of reality, y'know the projects I want to do and the ones I've actually got round to.

Anyway this is a bit of a sneaky one since I finished this before the move. I was so excited last night to finally sit down at the sewing machine and get cracking on something new to share but alas the sewing area (refashioned from some very ugly old kitchen cabinets is about 2 feet too high so I have to sew standing up or I can't reach the foot pedal. If you're bored of waiting for me to show you something cool imagine how I'm feeling, it's driving me nuts. I can't take this sewing drought so I'll be on the look out for either a sewing table or a stool this weekend since Garage sale season is upon us, woohooo I love the smell of Napalm a bargain in the morning!

Without further ado here is my take on a Mans shirt to cushion refashion, I was inspired by this tutorial but on reading the instructions, I realised that it was for a quilty type person, it was all tape this, use paper backing, way too advanced for my minimal piecing skills. I loved the look of it so I just had a crack at it and for once it actually worked. I literally just cut out 4 squares the same size making sure that the stripes ran corner to corner, a quilting square ruler I found at a thrift store was perfect for this, I could also make sure that the fabric was on grain. I then stitched them together making sure each stripe matched, pinning every inch. Once I'd finished I lay the top over the front of the shirt whilst it was buttoned up and cut round it. Stitched it together and Bob's your Uncle, a mans shirt to Geometric design cushion. Now I just need to hunt out the iron!!

Before shot.

A taster of what I'll be working on as soon as the sewing room is user friendly, remember the Zippa dee do Bra dress below? it was refashioned from a skirt and the lovely Janelle from Sew inspire me had asked for a Tutorial to make it. I'd been planning on doing this a lot sooner but I've been looking for a similar skirt.
