Hand-Me-Down Horror 15 - Trompe L'oeil

So this one took slightly longer than usual, mainly because I kept changing my mind about what I wanted it to end up as!

Originally it was just an uninspired button up short dress in another tropical print reminiscent of a cruise wear collection ick ick ick .

I chopped off the collar and sleeves (one day I'm going to show you I can work with sleeves too y'know) took it in, carried on the bust darts all the way to the top to make it a princess line bodice. I used the sash to make the straps, bias taped the top and made a faux waistband just using baby rick rack, I also made a faux collar by adding rick rack in a collar shape the neckline. I think this turned out even cuter than I originally planned.

Excuse the very dodgy photo of me, it's a sad day when I have to rely on my hubby to take a photo of me but the dress form is too busty for this dress. It's the only photo where Noah wasn't trying to look up my dress, charming hey!

I'm so embarassed I had to post this pic but believe me this was the best of a very bad bunch, hubby tends to take things from a birdseye view (amazing considering he's only 5ft 8''!) I'm just thankful I don't look like a hippo!!

You certainly don't look like a hippo! Quite the contrary!

Once again another beautiful creation and it's good to get to put your lovely face with the name too!

p.s. I'm starting my own hand-me down horror with a dress I got at the thrift store for...$1! Except I started hacking away at it without taking any before pictures...doh!

Super cute dress and I was excited to finally put a face with all your lovely work. But I totally get where you're coming from with the whole picture thing- I used to be able to get great lighting and pictures from my old apartment but I can't get a blank wall to take good pictures at anywhere where I currently live. My go-to is to just throw my work on Sally and take the pictures on her.

Aw thanks you guys are so lovely, I'd purposely avoided having photos of myself because I have just one wall in this dang mole den that is light enough, even then I had to adjust them! Of course relying on Paul's artistic judgment always leaves me in a cold sweat too lol!

p.s Emmalemma can't wait to see what you make of your hand-me-down horror? I sometimes get too enthusiastic and have to piece things together for a photo!!!
